Is WordPress Really That Great?

If you have been around the blogging field even for a small amount of time, then you have no doubt heard about WordPress. In the vast majority of cases people continually heap praise upon the WordPress blogging platform. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned blogger, a firm knowledge of the benefits and advantages of this blogging platform is essential if you want to be successful.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a blogging platform that is designed to remove many of the technical aspects of having a blog. It was first released in May of 2003 by Matt Mullenweg, and was an extension of other blogging tools such as Cafelog. Since its inception, WordPress has become the blogging platform of choice for almost 200 million bloggers worldwide.

Why is WordPress so Popular?

WordPress is popular for a variety of reasons but the big five reasons are as follows:

1) The initial popularity due to being free, easy to use, and open source fueled the development of extensions and add ons in the form of plugins and widgets. Now what began as just a blogging platform has become into a full blown website creation package.

Through the use of plugins and widgets, WordPress users can customize their blogs to perform tasks such as E-commerce complete with shopping cart integration.

2) Since WordPress is free, many of the add ons are free as well. The add ons are usually written by individual developers and generally cater to specific needs. Chances are if you need a more convenient way of doing something, someone has developed a plugin for it. Also keep in mind that the plugins are continually in development and keep improving. This means that you will be able to benefit as they improve as well.

3) WordPress is easy to use and easy to install. Even if you are not tech-savvy, you can still install WordPress in a few simple steps. Also, it takes a lot of the technical aspects of having a website out of the equation, which allows you to focus on actually running your site.

Most of the sites management occurs from the Dashboard, which rarely requires anything more than pointing and clicking. It also has the effect of consolidating all the necessary information into one place.

4) A variety of themes for WordPress. This is similar in nature to the variety of plugins available. Themes can be easily changed to alter the look and feel of the site without needing to tediously edit HTML or PHP code.

5) Search Engines look favorable upon WordPress, since they are easy to spider, and document. Search engines are the largest source of free traffic on the internet, so pleasing them is vital.

Because of these 5 reasons, WordPress has become the most popular blogging tool on the internet today. It will likely continue to be popular in the near future. If you are considering building a blog or website, you should definitely consider using WordPress.

How to Monetize Your Blog

Email newsletters are one of the easiest things to advertise using the blogs. One of main reasons for this is since majority of the people who come to them are keen on information. As a result all you have to perform is establish that you have know-how and facts to supply information that is being looked for and by giving some of free on your blog. And then it is the easiest thing in world to refer to your readers the fee based email newsletter for rest of information. Lure of having a blog installed in 15 minutes is incredibly very low start-up costs.

Stories are commonplace about the full time bloggers getting more than $100,000 per year while blogging for below 2 hours per day. And they generally carry out this while roaming the world! The most well liked blog type for newbie is one, which documents their daily lives, ramblings and views. They make use of it as the way to articulate them. Each latest blog post makes content that search engines completely love. The informal and casual nature of the blogs generally provides good reading. Readers have an option to simply comment on posts, giving feedback and their views.

All of the blogs can be further monetized with the advertising, advertising affiliate products and selling your personal products. Blog with the great distribution will draw high paying advertisers frequently paying for about 6 months of advertising in advance. Though, same to any small business, rejection rate of the blogs is extremely high. Bloggers frequently enjoy initial innovation of blogging, however if they began blogging to make a few additional income, novelty will weaken quickly if results do not look hopeful. Blogs turn out to be interactive and service needs of the writers and the readers. Now video and audio can easily be put on your blogs providing the different knowledge for all the readers.

Can I REALLY Make Money Blogging?

Blogging got started as a way for individuals to express their opinions about various topics that interested them. It also expanded to allow people to share news stories, and other current events. Most people however, even those who were up to date with the latest internet developments, did not know what blogging was.

Blogging to most people was a hobby, something they did in their spare time. Generally these pioneers did not expect to make any money from blogging. These blogs began to attract followings of like minded individuals who would keep up with the most recent posts.

A few bloggers however, decided to monetize their blogs through advertising, affiliates marketing, and product sales. Perhaps this move was fueled by a desire to cover hosting and domain registration costs. Whatever the motivation, it allowed the blog to unleash its full economic potential.

Blogs have rapidly gained popularity in recent years, with some even preferring them to websites. The reason for this is likely due to the element of interactivity. Readers can post comments and participate in the blog’s community. Also there’s the availability of RSS Feeds, archives, and social bookmarking that make sharing interesting content much easier than before.

A blog allows an individual or business to establish a personal relation with a reader. By establishing close relationships, it builds trust in the reader, and very often that trust results in sales and turns them into customers.

Nowadays, if you want to make a profit blogging, it is important that your blog look professional. In other words choose a template or theme that is not the standard default theme. Unless you are already a big established player in your field, this can make a significant difference.

When a potential reader arrives at your blog, remember that first impressions are everything, especially on the internet. A reader can very easily click the “Back” button and be gone in a heartbeat. This is why it is so vital to “Wow” you visitors when they first arrive.

Ensuring visitor loyalty is key when blogging for money. You can do this several ways. One is to take down names and email addresses. When you make a new post you can send them a brief summary and a link to your new post. This concept can also be applied to services such as Twitter.

One of the most crucial things is that you actually provide good quality content on a timely basis. Most budding bloggers will write a lot of content in the first few days or weeks. However, it is critical that you establish a steady posting rate that your readers can rely on. If you fail to update your blog you will lose readers in a hurry.

And finally a critical, and often overlooked, element of successful blogging is blog promotion. In the initial days of blogging, blogging was new, so it automatically got attention. These days however just mentioning the word “blog” doesn’t get everyone buzzing. For this reason you will have to promote your blog and get the word out about what sets your blog apart from the others.

In the end it is important to realize the three basic elements of successful cash blogging: professional looking theme, good content, and consistent promotion. If you pay attention to these three elements you might be on your way to becoming a professional blogger.

What Are Categories and Tags and How Are They Different in WordPress?

While blogs are a great way to share information, there are some strange details that might require a little bit more explanation. WordPress is a very wonderful format. It is easy to use. It has great features and you can add Categories and Tags.

What?

Yes, Categories and Tags. Once you scroll down past your post a little, you will come across these two very similar yet very different things. Using these two can help your readers find posts that fit their particular interests.

Why are there two different things?

Originally WordPress had categories. But after a while a category would start to get too many articles and bloggers broke down the categories further. This started creating long lists of Categories. Thus tags were born.

What is a category?

Categories are the broad term, they help categorize your posts. You can have long keyword phrases; which is a three or four word phrase, as a category. Create unique to your blog phrase for a category name. A category name could be “Dallas Mexican Restaurants” which is a long keyword phrase or “Mex-Food that Rocks” for something unique. But you can also have sub-categories. This great for “Dallas Restaurants” and the sub-category of “Mexican” or “Italian.”

How is a tag different?

You use tags to identify terms related to your blog post. These are terms that help readers of your blog and first time visitors identify the content. Unlike the above categories, you only want to use one or two words as tags. Tags related to the post above could be things like “tortillas, margaritas, live mariachis, green enchiladas, chicken tacos” and other related terms.

What about for Search Engines?

As far as SEO; Search Engine Optimization, there are differences as well. Tags help search engines identify content on your blog. A search engine is likely not to understand “Mex-Food that Rocks” but it does know you are talking about Mexican food from the tags you used.

How about for visitors?

Your readers should always be of highest consideration. They will understand both. If a reader only cares about places with green enchiladas, they will be very happy you use tags. Another person may only care about finding top Mexican restaurants. Your post can have as many tags as you want to use, the problem is, your tag cloud gets increasingly larger and more confusing. Thus try to keep a limit on your tags.

Steps a Baby Boomer Must Know about Blogging

So you are a Senior citizen, a Baby boomer!  What are you doing with your time now?  You Need to Blog.  Blogs can be in demand and very fruitful tool if applied correctly. Waht you doing with your time and knowledge now?  Benefitting from blogs is just a matter of grabbing the attention of an audience and not doing any actual marketing of a product or service, you let them find you.  Here are the 14 most necessary steps for Seniors Citizens need to know about blogging.

1) Where do you start?  When in doubt so a Google Search

You should begin your blogging mission with a free blog hosting service such as Google Blogger.  It’s a free blog host and can be fulfilling for a young blogger.  Starting with a free blog hosting service allows you to begin blogging at once without having any advance knowledge of internet protocals or code to slow you down. You don’t have to program a thing.  If you took high school typing, you can blog.  A blog will allow you to build an audience of readers and can create a buzz for your blog.  A free blog hosting site allows you to concentrate on your message and not the internal upkeep of the blog on your own website. The most beneficial benefit of beginning with a free blog service, is in the case your blog doesn’t become successful you do not lose any money or are you left holding the bill. The great thing about a blog is that they are organized in chronological order, your latest entry is displayed first. When your blog traffic grows greatly and you are ready to upgrade to your own domain then you can simply make your last blog entry the announcement of your “move”.  Simply add a last entry stating that your blog has “moved” and type the new blog URL address. We will cover that issue when you really want to get serious as a blogger How and where do you direct visitors to your new blog site, how to keep your following, without a major inconvenience to anyone. Upgrade as you need to…but only when you need to!  For Now type in Google.com/accounts and click on Blogger.

2) Niche or What are you going to blog about?

A niche is a targeted product, service, or topic. You should first choose on a product, service, or topic which interest you. Choose an area which you can enthusiastically write about on a daily basis. You can use keyword research services like Google or Yahoo! Buzz Index to find popular searched topics. It does NOT matter if your topic is popular, as long as there is a audience for your topic.   and the topic is precisely focused then your blog should be successful. Anything can be considered a niche as long as it has a target audience no matter how large or how small the audience is. A blog about your cat can be a niche or a blog about the species of the cat family can be a larger niche market, if there are people who are interested in hearing about your cat or the species of the cat family, then you have a niche…you can even choose to build your audience for a market which an audience does not exist, but first you must build your blog.

3) Update Daily (nothing less)

This step is a must and not a suggestion. Updating your blog daily not only keeps your blog more interesting to readers, but it also gives your blog fresh content on a day to day making it more appealing to search engines. Not updating your blog on an occasional holiday or one day here and there is understandable to most, but missing days at a time or weeks is unacceptable and will most likely result in your blog being unsuccessful. To keep your blog traffic and retain your visitors interest it is a must to update your blog daily with multiple entries. Though, I am seeing a growing trend of successful blogs that are not being updated daily, but they are successful and have a stable audience who continue to visit their blog daily.  Regardless, these blogs are still updated weekly with multiple entries.  Until you have a steady audience you should try to update your blog everyday with at least 3 or more daily entries. The best way to accomplish this is to set aside 1-2 hours a day for tending to your blog and adding new entries. It may even be wise to schedule a set time which you dedicate to your blog each day. Give yourself work hours and treat your blog as a job, what happens if you don’t come to work for days or weeks…you lose money or worse you get fired! Same applies here…if you don’t update your blog for days or weeks you’ll lose visitors.

It’s no secret. You must have traffic to profit from blogs, and remember, the goal is to increase your senior years casg flow. There are numerous ways to build traffic. Paid advertising, free advertising, viral marketing, search engine marketing, RSS/XML feeds, and word-of-mouth. You should always use your blog URL address in the signature of your email, forum discussions, message boards, or any other communication media. You should submit your blog URL address to search engines and blog directories. You should submit your RSS/XML URL feed to blog ping services like Technorati, Ping-O-Matic, and Blogdigger. You should confidently share your blog with family, friends, co-workers, associates, and business professionals when it relates. Many blogs can be considered as a collection of articles, for this purpose you should submit your blog entries (those that are valuable and lengthy articles) to content syndicators like GoArticles.com or

Blogging to the Next Level

On today’s internet, there are so many blogsites, it is very hard to distinguish a new site from the rest of the pack. It does not matter if you are starting a new site for bloggers or making adjustments to a site you already own, to make it more distinctive, one key to creating and maintaining a site that will capture anyone’s interest in the blogosphere, is to find your niche. Filling a need in a unique way, a way that no other site does. This is the way to build readership among web surfers. When you have your niche picked out, there is still a long road to go. A good starting point would be to find your place in the blogosphere.

Every “great” blogging site, has its beginnings with a “great” idea. To have a successful lasting site it must start with a great “idea.”  On the internet today there are numerous sites aimed at today’s bloggers, the competition for this targeted audience is also fierce.

In the quest to make your site “stand out”, you will have to offer a service that no site is currently offering, or offer the the same service in a more valuable or conventional way.

To discover how to model your blogging site, look up blogging sites that already have captured a blogging readership successfully, look around their site and see if the site that you have can implement any of the strategies they are using. Now keep in mind, that any strategy that is used, a spin needs to be put on it in order for the strategy that is implemented may stand apart from anyone else’s.

If your site has personality in todays market, it is agreed by most that it will do better. Websurfers in todays market are individualistic, so they will respond better to a more personable site that is unique and attractive.

Now you have your idea for the site, you have the niche picked out, that only you as a blogger have the experience to fulfill, the site you have created is permeated with personality. What is the next step? How do you get the word out to the blogosphere?

When it comes right down to the brass tacks, just having a “great idea” will not propel your blogging site to be successful. The first thing to do is, set down prepare a realistic marketing plan to draw your readers to your site.

After you have your hook on a blogger, the quaility content that you post will keep them coming back for more. It is vital though that you get that first glance so that you have a chance to shine.
